....They do not sound like Plastic Tree. Nor does Gen act possessed when he sings, like Ryutaro does. (>___>) Don't get me wrong, I adore Plastic Tree, but I would never ever have drawn any parallels between the two bands except that they were both being managed by SWEET CHILD during the same time period.
That said, I am a HUGE FAIRY FORE fan.
Sadly, I mourn, for they broke up back in December. ( ; o ; ) But they left a lot of good music behind them (and videos, if you have the patience and money to hunt them down), and one of the most bizarre band histories ever. I know a lot of useless stuff about them that I'm not sure anyone else would care to know, and I no longer know which parts are actually essential to other people. I've also amassed a lot of scans somehow, though I'm not sure why other people like to stare at them so much. (>_>)
So... lessee, information... They formed in 1994, under the name FIR~REFORLE. They had only three members at the time, REI (vo.), YASU (b.) and YOKO (dr.). They had a support guitarist, SYU, who was also the guy that taught YOKO how to play drums and gave him his first drum set (wtf, right?). He left them about six months after their first live. For the next couple of lives, AKIHIDE and JUN both played guitar for them. They went through some more, less important guitarists, and in 1996, acquired YUHKI as a FULL FLEDGED MEMBER. Sometime after YUHKI joined them, REI changed his name to TAKASHI. He stayed with them until 1998, and was replaced literally two days after leaving by AKIHIDE. AKIHIDE stayed with them for the next five years.
During those five years, they would experience their highest moments. In 2000, their first REAL ACTUAL release (not a demo tape, of which they had released MANY by this time), the mini-album LOOP was released under the SWEET CHILD label. (TAKASHI changed his name one last time before LOOP was released, this time to his full name, Gen'ouzono Takashi.) They would soon after go major, LOVE SICK being their debut single. Avex kept them for about two years, through three more singles (VIVID, BODY DOUBLE and JETTO), an album (HEAVEN'S MARKET) and the holy grail of all FAIRY FORE CDs, Darling. Darling was never given a proper release; it was sold at one live before the band was unceremoniously (and silently) dropped from their label.
They took another blow when AKIHIDE left them in September. They quickly acquired a new guitarist, Eiji Fujiwara (ex-Vivid), who would quickly go from support to full member in the following months, only to leave them in July of 2004. They released their last single before he left, Youphilous, and a live DVD "SPICE SHOWER." After Eiji they only used support guitarists, apparently giving up on ever finding one that would actually stay. They had a selection of support guitarists for the next year or so (JUN played with them again, as did SYU, whose name is now SHU), before finally settling with a guy named TAITO, who would stick with them until the end.
They released their last album in May of 2005, kono hana ga saite kareru made. The title translates to "until this flower withers and dies", and in the case, underneath the disc was the longer phrase "we will continue to water this flower until it withers and dies," and on the booklet, in English, were the words "Never too late." The words sounded hopeful, but what they really meant was that the band was coming to the end of its life. After one last tour (titled "Never too late"), they announced they would be disbanding, doing one more final tour (~Thank you for your million smile~, which is, fittingly, a lyric from one of GLAY's songs, "zutto futari de...") in the fall of 2005, wrapping it up on December 11 at the same venue they had their first live in, Machida THE PLAY HOUSE.
And none of them are doing anything particularly interesting right now. YASU is playing support for BEAUTY MANIACS (ex-ALL I NEED vo. Akito's solo project) and HIRO-X. YOKO changed his name, and is now going by his full name, Yokoi Yoshinori. He's adopted a policy of "no secrets" and has given out more than he probably should about himself in his blog. He's doing all kinds of support gigs, but most notably, he's in a band called Orpheus with, of all people, JUN and YUHKI, who now calls himself YUUKI. They look promising, but unfortunately not a one of them has any kind of work ethic, and they will most likely go nowhere just like all of JUN's other projects. Takashi isn't doing anything as of yet- he's done exactly one live since FAIRY FORE split, a session band live for GUTWIE's (of MONKEYšSPUNK) birthday, back in June.
.....Was that too much at once? If so, my apologies. m(_ _)m
