Now back when I hated Diru everyone and their dog loved them. Now the once hard core fan as fallen out of love with these guys. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? Esp since now I'm actually starting to like them. >_<

ahaha I knew being too lazy to delete my MySpace messages would do me some good one day. I found my mini-rant on the Dir en grey in the US from a bunch of messages I exchanged with t3h lovely Cesh <3
here goes:
this is the final straw. I am SICK of seeing anti-jrock in the US and anti-Dir en grey on the Family Values tour clogging up my bulletins pages, my xanga friends pages and my livejournal friends pages. >(
this is...dunduhdunnnn from livejournal.
And everyone upset about Dir en grey touring with Korn and Jrock becoming big in America, suck it in and quit your bitchings >( you know if they came to your hometown you'd so shell out the money to go.
THAT'S RIGHT. I SAID IT. I WENT THERE. I'm Pro Jrock in the US. It's a lot of musician's dreams to get famous in America, why deny jrock bands that chance? If they make it (like Dir en grey is doing somewhat, they're getting there), they make it. Good for them. If they fail, they fail. BUT they will leave the airport with a sense of accomplishment that they crossed major MAJOR lines to play in a foreign country where the main language is not Japanese and where the customs are TOTALLY different from what they're used to in Japan. And America won't taint them. They'll taint themselves. A country is not a living breathing machine. Whatever habits they pick up here, THEY picked up, we didn't force it on them.
Do you also realize how EXPENSIVE it is to get to Japan? It is 1,000 USD just for roundtrip plane tickets. During holidays it's probably even MORE. Then also there's liveshow tickets, add on an extra $50. live goods +$100 or so. drink tickets $5 (some livehouses REQUIRE you to buy a drink ticket). oh and don't forget your hotel!! that is insane amounts of money. so why not take advantage of paying only $30 for premium seats, $50 for live goods, and you don't even need a flipping drink ticket! When you save your money you can go to more shows and save up to buy cds. Plus! you can say _______ was walking down the street in your hometown!
Dir en grey merch being sold at Hot Topic? Hey. Jpophouse takes jrock bands and squeezes every dollar they can get out of them. $5 for a polaroid picture? Is that all they're worth? Auction off a dinner with Kamijo? Everyone bitches about how they don't like it but they still bid. They still pay the $5 to sit next to D'espairsRay and get a craptastic polaroid of the group. You KNOW you'll go to Hot Topic and shell out the $30 it costs for a Dir en grey t-shirt and Kyo pins for your purse/hat/backpack/shirts/jackets. You know you would.
so stfu >(
hem. *bows*

Like I said, it's the fans that are the problem not the band itself. Hurr. But that's just my take on it.....

I guess a lot of Diru fans don't like their new sound in Withering to Death.
I still love them though--I love the new sound just as much as the old sound.

It just . . . IS.
It's less melodic and complicated than their earlier stuff, or something . . .
There's a REALLY big difference, but I can't quite put it into words.

According to a lot of their "older" fans, the stuff they released from old albums like Gauze, Kisou, etc. up to six UGLY had a lot of variety from more poppish to scream-y songs and it was original so that's why they like it. The "older" fans are complaining now because WtD album sounded more like "mainstream" rock music and of course Clever Sleazoid was just a jumble of Engrish that made no sense.
Also some fans are worried about Kyo killing his throat with all the screaming since they don't play anything older than CHILD PREY at lives nowadays.

Yeah, that's the words I was looking for.
It's sounding more mainstream.
And getting SLIGHTLY closer to American sounding. And by that I mean minisculely so. >.>

^ I agree, it just has a *touch* of American mainstream music but if you really know Dir en grey you can tell that Dir still put their own style into it, so it's not completely mainstream. The older fans are just blowing it way out of proportion.
However, I hear the new song (they played this for the first time on their Showcase tour, no one knows the title) has more melody to it and Kyo actually *sings* (not gobbles >.> can you tell I'm not a clever sleazoid fan?). The future is looking bright again! haha

Alright,
I know it's annoying. It's aggravating too, but it's nothing to get angry or upset over. There are always going to be people (former fans or not) that are anti-genre/band.
I love Dir En Grey, I've always loved them and I will continue to love them, but I'm not everyone and neither are you guys. Fans are falling out of love because they're annal about their music, their annal about -being different- and -liking different things- than what's mainstream. Suddenly Dir En Grey is getting popular and fans (not true fans) are dropping out to hate them because their music doesn't make them special anymore. Well F#*$ them.
Alright, their music has changed a bit, but so what? It's not going to stay the same forever, especially not with the same band members staying in for the long run. They're going to grow, they're going to change. For better or worse.
I personally don't find anything wrong with their newer stuff and I like it just as much as their older stuff. Some people don't want it to change.
As for anti-Jrock in the US, fine... whatever. People can be against it if they want to be but eventually it's going to happen. There's a large Jrock following we're just not loud enough about it here, not only that but the people that ARE loud about it tend to be a little intimidating and "weird" to onlookers. Why? Because it's different. ~Insert anti-American elitist comment here (though she is not anti-American by any means just anti-American "elitists")~
Anyway...
Ignore them as best you can. That's the only thing you can do. Not use getting pissed, that won't change anything. Never has.
Chin up.

to Cesh: I doubt it, Free-Will America is up-the-ass about the illegal photos and videos taken at the Showcase tour, they're threatening legal action but out of respect for the band I think links to clips on youtube were taken down (FWA can't really sue you >.> It would be a waste of money and blahblahblah, t hey have other things to do.). You can search though, they may still be up there.
and to Odrah: lmao my rant thing I posted as per request from Haru. It was during that whole frenzy of myspacers and forum people that were posting about Dir being on mtv. Thank god it's died down now.
I guess Dir know who their real fans are now that they've completely stopped their hardcore visual image and started writing different music than before; it gives em a chance to weed out the people only clinging onto the fandom because Shinya paraded around in a skirt rather than the music, because it's them that make the music and the band themselves are the only ones that can dictate how their music goes, what direction they're heading in, etc.
w00t Dir en grey. Haha I have a lot to say about the topic, they're one of my favorite bands and have been up near the top of my list for nearly four years.

Here's what I say:
Shinya and Toshiya wearing skirts caught my attention and got me to listen to their music.
Their music is what made me a Diru fan.
I love their music and that's why I'm a Dir en grey fan.
Period.
I might go on about pretty boys, but that's just an added bonus, even without the prettiness their music is amazing and even as it changes it's amazing.
People who can't get over the change can just . . . whatever. *pokes with a pointed stick*

Haha like image is a really important factor, especially for up and coming new bands. The reason why Dir en grey paraded around in dresses with wild makeup and hair was to attract attention. Then once they got attention then people heard their music and thought it was cool and became a fan, a lot of bands do that. So I can see why they were all hardcore visual then.
But let's be practical, the guys are all 30+ or nearing that age. They're a bit too old to be prancing around in skirts.

Meh, I'm not too keen on the modern sound myself. I prefer the older albums a lot more (from what I've heard) Thing is a few years ago people let me listen to thier newer stuff and I didn't life it...and it wasn't until recently that I started liking them...does that mean I've suffered reverse disillusionment??? lol.
