The first time I heard someone say this I thought they were out of ther minds. But then I got to thinking about it and it kinda makes sence. The reign of X with it's hard rock edge ended when a certain bassist left the band. Then Heath joined and they became X Japan. Totally different feel with more sappy ballads. What do you guys think?

GO HEATH!!11!!*has needs to scream* Well....you can *look* at it as "a different band"..as like their music was "reborn"..but they are almost the same people....so..

BWAHAHAHAA!!! I knew someone was gunna say something about my little message. I can't wait for Britt to see it, she'll kill me >.>
Anyway, apparently the group dynamic changed radically after the loosing of Taiji and gaining of Heath. I always got the feeling he was treated as an outsider you know, since he wasn't one of the originals. I dunno, this is all vibes I'm getting, no facts I can find to back it up.

Well there are arguments for both sides of this.
Argument one.. Two different groups: The name changed. From X to X-Japan. This could signify a dropping of the old, constructing a new face.
The sound changed. Like Nana-san said, there are more ballads, a new and kind of softer sound.
Argument two.. Same band, different bassist: The band only switched one member. The band really only lost one member, and just because you add on a different person doesn't mean the band is completely new. Look at all of the bands that have done this throughout the ages.
The sound changed based on the growth of the group and not the fact that there was a new bassist.
I could give more, but I'm kind of running late. There are some lose opinions though.

I thought they changed their name from X to X-Japan because they had plans to bring their music to America..? There was already a band called X here, they're an 80's punk group...

I thought they changed their name from X to X-Japan because they had plans to bring their music to America..? There was already a band called X here, they're an 80's punk group... That's true. But what I think is that X and X Japan can be two different bands because when their named changed, so did their music. And man, was it a drastic change at that. Sure, the members changed around even. But I think that at the heart of it all, X and X Japan are synonomous with each other and are the same band, as they went through a LOT of changes: members, music, time span. Kinda like the Eagles I think, but I'm not sure where they tie in ^^;;

Before hide died Yoshiki and hide (these two I know for sure) were discussing a second X group... A coming back of X? We'll never know, but this could be support that X was a completely different band.

It could *pondering*. But I always thought X and X Japan were synonomous with each other, although by habit, I refer to the phase with Taiji "X" and the later phase with the ballads "X Japan". but yeah.

I like X Japan more than X, but they're almost the same in members, but their music is so different. I don't really get why they changed so much.

Alright, So I think we almost all agree that X and X-Japan are the same group.
Same group, just a different musical style. Their style changed, the band didn't. I guess that's what we're getting at, yeah?
So X is more of a symbol of a past style of the band instead of a past band, in itself, yeah? We guess?
Good XD

I don't know all, but I do know how to draw things together into a final statement. It is what I was taught to do in AP Literature and English Composition!! Woo
