For those of you that keep up with the manga, a Deathnote movie is on its way to the big screen. The first of two installments is to be released in June (the second in October). I'm not sure about the following, but movie 1 is set to take place from Light's entrance into college up to the Yotsuba incident and movie 2 concludes the battle between Light and L.
Here's some stuff to get you started:
Official Site: wwws.warnerbros.co.jp/deathnote/
IMDB Site: www.imdb.com/title/tt0758742/
Subway scene: akadot.com/article.php?a=465

1st trailer: youtube.com/watch?v=B28PEPfJ_08&search=death%20note
2nd trailer can be found on the official site
An interesting note: There's a flash of text in the trailer that reads, "Sayonara Conan." So Maybe they're referencing Detective Conan and how he can't compare to L... Or maybe the trailer aired after a Detective Conan movie trailer. Blah.
If you haven't a clue of what I'm talking about, Deathnote's a manga written by Tsugami Ohba and drawn by Takeshi Obata (artist of Hikaru no Go). In short, a Deathnote is a supernatural notebook that has the power to kill any human whose name is written in it. Light, the "protagonist" finds one and goes on a killing spree to rid the world of evil in order to create his utopia. Of course, a massive decrease in the population doesn't exactly go unnoticed and police from all over are hired to capture the culprit, dubbed "Kira" by online fanatics. Eventually, the world's greatest detective, L, is hired to take the case. Both L and Light are geniuses so both have no easy task.
There's a lotta mess involved (specifics of the Deathnote, Shinigami, Light's background, L's background), but I'm not going to get into it. Suffice it to say that Deathnote's a really intellectual manga because, well, Light and L are bloody friggin' smart. So yeah, a detective story like no other.
But I digress... Back on the topic of the movie, the lead from Battle Royale, Fujiwara Tatsuya, plays Light. One of the guy's from Nana (Matsuyama Ken'ichi) is L (which I don't really see him as, but oh well). This MIGHT be wrong (unless there's some other famous guy named Kaga Takeshi), but Light's dad is played by none other than Chairman Kaga. Yes, the Chairman Kaga from Iron Chef. I'm really looking forward to this movie since I'm addicted to the manga. If I had to choose between the Silent Hill movie and this, I'd choose this movie. My only gripe is that the movie is likely to be dumbed down A LOT just because a lot of people are going to be either lost in confusion from the dialogue or walking out if they kept the intellectual level the same as in the manga.
Anyway, this post is getting too long... Oh, and yes, the same L as in my avatar and sig (made by Kagayuzen)...
