~Throws her arms up into the air~ VICTORY!
~Throws her arms then around Damien~ YOU ROCK!
....
~Recomposes herself~ Anyway, Nana! You even admitted that you enjoyed some of DEG's songs. Come on Nana! ~Shove~
Dir En Grey can be pretty damn disturbing though. You have to be careful if you have any kind of weak constitution. Especially be aware when watching their PV's

haahaa I liked Dir en Grey's album "Gauze" and that's pretty much it lol. O-chan, you know how I love converting people to the X Japan or the Metronome side xD. Yes Damian, LISTEN TO METRONOME lol.

I couldn't find any Metronome yet. =x
If you caught me a couple months ago, I would've been all over X Japan. I like 'em, but my tastes have shifted from metal for awhile. I go through phases with my musical tastes.

I think that Dir En Grey is the same way. If you don't naturally just like them... then you're bound to hate them until you give them a try a 2nd 3rd and 4th time. After that you start to find some stuff that you like, or at least can stand.
So sometimes you have to talk yourself in to liking good music. Metronome isn't my favorite, just like DEG isn't Nana's favorite, but I like some of their songs. 'Tis a musical compromise ^-^

I get what you mean about easing into bands. I hated this band, Opeth, but I made myself listen to them more anf more, and now they're my all-time favorites. =P
I mainly like Gauze, and a few tracks on the other albums. I end up skipping through most of the screamy or random songs. I have all my jrock mp3s in one folder and I just play them all, instead of playing each album individually. I just skip somehting if I don't like it. =\

Yeah that's pretty much what I do. Metronome, Kana, and Diru are all mucisians that you don't just LIKE right away in my opinion. The same thing keeps happening to me with every metronome album. I listen to it the first time and I'm like "grr it sucks" but then I listen to it a second time and I start to like it. After a few more times listening I love it. I guess that's just the way it goes sometimes.

Before I bought the album Kisou, I had only heard the songs Raison Detre and The Final. And I loved those songs crazily. And I got Kisou and was like . . . wtf. I didn't like it too much. But I paid like more than $30 for it, so I was determined to like it. After about the 5th or 6th time listening to it, I was like . . . HOLY CRAP THIS ROCKS. Dir en grey is definitely an acquired taste, and not for everybody, but there is a lot of musical integrity hidden underneath the craziness.
I love how random Diru is . . . for example, listen to Hydra and Berry . . . hahaha . . .
I don't like their lyrics for the most part though. . . . . . -.- But I don't care, they rule my world.

haha I was the same way with Gazette. I heard a bad song and it ruined the band for me till a friend poked and prodded me to try again. Then I caught "Cassis" fever and fell in love with the acoustic and piano intro. =D Now they're alright but not my favorite.

I disliked Penicillin AND L~arc en Ciel at first listen. But after a few more songs I couldn't help it ^-^. You so harshly judge them in the beginning and then later you can't remember why you did.
Kana... I think she's GREAT. First song I heard, I was making some interesting noises attempting to keep myself quiet because my roommate was asleep.
If I absolutely have to be a fan girl... I'm going to be a fan girl for another girl dammit. Girl power! All the way! Pink clouds and Stawberries!... ~Pause~

There are some bands who I think might turn Dir en grey on me, as in, the first few times I listen and try to like them, it just doesn't work, but I keep thinking if I keep listening, I'll like them . . . that's the case with L'Arc~en~Ciel and Kagerou for me . . . but no matter how much I give them a chance, they never grow on me. But the point is, give stuff a chance, you neer know . . .
Kana . . . I think she has a good voice, I just wish she'd use it. But I like her. *huggles* Oh, and she's pretty cute too, that helps. ^.^

I don't love every single one of Dir's songs, but that's part of the reason I like 'em so much, if that makes any sense -- the variety. ^^ My favourites tend to be also the ones with the most variation within the song itself; where there is some screaming/growling contrasted with clear singing, and gentle sections contrasting with heavier sections.
I do like some of the songs that are similar all the way through, such as Machiavellism (it kicks ass!) and Pink Killer (dunno why but I just love it. XD).
But yeah, all Dir's albums have some songs on that I really don't like that much, but they all have some gems, too, IMO... ^^
